Christian families are left homeless in Chhattisgarh's tribal belt.
In two districts of the state's south, a family was put out and other homes lost their roofs, all after a refusal to renounce the faith.
International Christian Concern (ICC) reported on October 27, 2026 two recent cases in the tribal belt of southern Chhattisgarh, in the districts of Kanker and Sukma. In both, according to ICC, the families had refused to renounce the Christian faith and return to the old rituals.
What ICC reports
- Kanker, October 24: a Christian family was evicted from its home and its belongings thrown out.
- Sukma, about 10 days earlier: attackers removed the metal roofing sheets from a pastor's home and from four houses belonging to two Christian families, leaving everyone exposed to the weather.
- Police: ICC says police arrive quickly but only contain the crowd, with no lasting legal protection, no enforcement of property rights and no help for the displaced to return home.
- Underreporting: according to the organization, many similar cases go unreported. The report carries no response from authorities.
Why it matters
Human rights workers cited by ICC link the incidents to Christians' refusal to take part in traditional village rituals. Those who refuse face boycott and community sanctions, especially around communal worship and funeral rites, which traditionalists see as a rejection of solidarity and customary authority. A pastor who helps the displaced told ICC they face homelessness, poverty and threats of violence, with no protection from law enforcement. The harm is concrete: whole families left without a roof.
Pray for the families who lost their roofs, that they will find shelter and provision; for the pastors who take them in, that they will not lack resources or strength; and for those who pressure them, that the love of Christ will reach their hearts too.
